| Don Ronnie and Andrew Donald '10 |
On Saturday, December 12, the 2009 Don Ronnie Scholarship was presented to Andrew Donald ’10. During his four years at Hill, Andrew has been a three-year varsity basketball athlete while continuously appearing on the honor roll. Andrew was a strong addition to last spring’s track team and a two-way all-league player on this year’s MAPL championship football team. Andrew recently celebrated acceptance into the University of Pennsylvania for the fall of 2010.
As co-captain for the varsity boys’ basketball team this year, Andrew’s competitive spirit, love of sports, and desire to improve academically and athletically all reflect the qualities of Coach Ronnie that his players sought to remember in establishing this scholarship in his name.
As dean, teacher, coach, and mentor, Coach Ronnie loyally served The Hill School community for 46 years. Ronnie served as The Hill’s head boys’ basketball coach from 1955 to 1992, winning more than 400 games in his impressive tenure. In 2001, Ronnie retired from The Hill, but his dedication to the School lives on through his current position as assistant coach to the boys’ team. Upon his retirement in 2001, the members of Ronnie’s 37 teams established the Donald S. Ronnie Scholarship Fund.
