The 2011 girls' team after their thrilling 1-0 (2OT) victory over Peddie

2010 and 2011 MAPL Champions
2011 PAISAA State Champions

The 2011 Hill School girls’ soccer team carried the momentum of 2010’s championship season into 2011 and posted another outstanding season, finishing with a 17-2-2 record. The girls’ defended their 2010 MAPL Championship and also won the inaugural PAISAA State Championship, upsetting top-seed Germantown Academy in the semi-final before trouncing Episcopal Academy 4-0 in the final. Two days after winning the State Championship, Hill clinched the MAPL Championship with a 1-1 draw at Lawrenceville.

Several key players returned from the 2010 team including leading scorer Deanna Mayza ’13, who set a new program record with 23 goals on the season; all-around threat Mary Edwards ’12; Lizzie Sullivan, who moved from the midfield to striker midway through the season and instantly became a dangerous scoring threat; and shut-down defenders Shannon Ruane ’12 and Emily Sitko ’13. Returning letter winners Heather Long ’12, Megan Ruane ’13, Keeley Spiess ’14, and Schuyler Metzger ’14 were asked to take on increased responsibilities this year and made the most of their opportunities, contributing key minutes. Sara Graham ’13 returned from injury and provided timely scoring throughout the season, including a huge goal in the PAISAA semi-final at GA. Goalkeeper Julia Hernan ’15 was tremendous in goal, recording a save percentage of 85 on the season, and was one of five third formers on the team who will provide tremendous depth and experience in the coming seasons.
