History in action: Native Americans and the American West

Mr. Wolter strategizes with his students
During the spring 2010 term, Mr. Dave Wolter's history term course Native Americans and the American West worked on a simulation of the U.S. Army’s attempt to capture Geronimo and his Apaches in Arizona, New Mexico, and Mexico in 1885-1886. The strategy process and hunt lasts about four days with a day of debriefing with the class to summarize what they learned. According to Mr. Wolter, "Geronimo 'wins' (does not get captured) approximately 40% of the time. The class really gets into the hunt and hunted element of the event."
