More than 70 Hill students, faculty, staff, and family members participated in the Operation Smile bowl-a-thon held at the Limerick Bowling Alley on October 19, 2008. The event, organized by Caitlin Klein ’09, generated $11,833.60 in contributions-- the largest amount ever raised by Hill’s Operation Smile club or any other school-wide fundraiser. The money will benefit the not-for-profit medical service organization which provides free surgeries to children and young adults with cleft lip and palate deformities. Enough money was raised by members of The Hill community to provide 47 surgeries, as each surgery costs $250.

Students and faculty were asked to obtain sponsorships from at least five donors in order to participate in the bowl-a-thon. The goal was for each bowler to have five sponsors of $100 or more.
Nicolas Delclaux ’10 raised more than $1,400 while Duncan O’Brien ’10 managed to bring in over $1,200. Both students received i-pods for their accomplishment. Annie McLaughlin ’11 raised $750 for the cause, the third highest amount. In addition to food, bowling, and a DJ, a raffle also was held at the event. Prizes included movies tickets, gift baskets, jewelry, and a cologne set donated by Hill parents. Little Italy gift cards also were donated, and The Cheesecake Factory made a $25 contribution.
This past August, Caitlin traveled to San Diego to attend Operation Smile’s annual leadership conference. To read more about the trip, click here.
