The Hill School’s annual fall music festival took place on Friday, October 2, 2009 featuring the Orchestra, Jazz Ensemble, Chorus, Glee Club, Hilltones, and Hilltrebles.

The Orchestra performed “Glorioso,” written by Robert W. Smith and directed by student conductor Minjeong Koo ’10; “Scottish Fantasy,” written by Robert Washbum; and “Symphony No. 2 in C” written by Peter Tchaikovsky and arranged by Sandra Dackow.

The Jazz Ensemble opened with “A Night in Tunisia” by Dizzy Gillespie and Frank Paparelli, and arranged by Michael Sweeney. Soloists during the piece included Anthony Urbano ’11 on trumpet and Anders Hogstrom ’10 on alto saxophone. Tommy Lenzi ’10 performed a guitar solo during the ensemble’s last piece, “Pick Up the Pieces,” arranged by Mark Taylor.

The Venezuelan folk song, “Mata Del Anima Sola” by Antonio Estevez started the vocal portion of the festival by The Hill School Chorus and Glee Club. “Ose Shalom,” a traditional Hebrew text arranged by John Leavitt, featured Anders Hogstrom ’10 on piano. “Saints Bound for Heaven,” arranged by Alice Parker and Robert Shaw, and “Danny Boy,” arranged by Joseph Flummerfelt, rounded out their performance.
