Sierra Bintliff ’08 – Sierra says, “I think my style in this show is influenced by icons and pop art. I reduced each image to a silhouette and worked with layers of spray paint to create bold compositions.”

Caroline Casey ’08 – Of her designs, Caroline says, “I’m inspired by elegance and proportion, and—most of all—a youthfulness of spirit. My ultimate goal is to produce pieces that will reflect inner beauty and sparkle.” Caroline’s work in the exhibit displayed her first individual designing project and part of a larger project to start a small scale production of her designs.

Nobuko (Nobu) Fujioka ’07 – While Nobu feels she entered Afternoon Arts with little experience in the arts, the constructive feedback she received and the chance to experiment inspired her. Of BOND, Nobu says: “The word ‘bond’ relates to the connection of the hands.”

Christine Oh ’10 – Christine says, “My paintings are based on real life scenes, although some parts were edited to exaggerate the main tone of the painting…I tried to focus less on the details and more on the brushstrokes to capture the texture. I also tried to control colors to depict my emotions when I was at these places [Boston and NYC].”

Sara Walden ’07 – “Ceramics has always been my favorite art form since I took it up in seventh grade,” says Sara. She started with a plastic wheel and miniature air-dry pots, but “eventually got to use the ‘real’ wheels and from then on loved it.”
