The 2011-12 Writing Fellows
Each spring, Director of the Writing Center Tony Reid '75 and Assistant Director of the Writing Center Meg Watson choose a group of students from among the fifth form to serve as Writing Fellows in the next school year. The English and Humanities teachers nominate students for the honor, and those students are then asked to write an essay on an assigned topic if they wish to apply. Reid and Watson review and discuss the essays, and then choose the Fellows. The Fellows participate in a writing seminar throughout the year with Reid and Watson and also serve as peer tutors in the Writing Center for students who come seeking help.
Reid and Watson asked the nominees for the 2011-12 school year to write as essay about writing – what it meant to them in their lives; what they found difficult about it; what inspired them to write; which writers they admired and why. On the basis of what they wrote, 10 students were chosen. They are: Noah Drauschak (Pottstown, Pa.), Lindsay Hassinger (Pottstown, Pa.), Mary Mac Jones (Somerville, Ten.), Eliza Jorn (Rumson, N.J.), Robert Kerr (Sullivan's Island, S.C.), Kelsea LaSorda (Collegeville, Pa.), Abby Mortimer (Pine, Colo.), Brian Sachs (Glenside, Pa.), Kathleen Sands (West Chester, Pa.), and Caitlin Stouvenot (Collegeville, Pa.).
