The Hill School Department of Modern Languages
The Modern Language Department offers Chinese, French, and Spanish, from beginning to AP levels, and beyond. All courses, regardless of the language, emphasize the four “pillars” of language (reading, writing, listening, and speaking) and use both intensive classroom instruction and innovative technology to enhance student learning. The Department offers integrated and sequential program offerings that allow for instructor autonomy that enhances student learning.

For the past two years, the Department has been using the TELL ME MORE language learning system, with its proficiency-based tracking tools, to augment the traditional classroom instruction. All classes, at all levels, make frequent use of technology, taking full advantage of the language lab, and of the wireless internet and projector equipment available in every classroom. In every language, students annually participate in the School Year Abroad program which allows fifth form students to spend a year in Bejing, China; Rennes, France; or Zaragosa, Spain.
