Julia Betts '14 (Royersford, Pa); Anya Hare '15 (Burchrunville, Pa.); Elaine Wen '14 (Shenzhen, China) JV Girls’ Squash
These three girls captured their first wins of the season for the JV Girls Squash team to help to its best performance of the season. For Anya and Elaine, this was their first match of the season, and both played very well in shutting out their opponents to win in straight games.
Mia Colona '15 (Glenmoore, Pa.) Varsity Swimming
Mia is new to competitive swimming this year and she has adapted wonderfully. She’s been swimming backstroke and butterfly in meets and just learned the breaststroke. No sooner had she learned the breaststroke than the opportunity came for her to swim the 200 IM, one of the hardest events in high school swimming. She swam it with a smile and with a respectable time as well. Her attitude and willingness to learn are admirable.
Alheli Garza '12 (Mission, Texas) Varsity Girls’ Squash
Playing up two spots from her normal position against a strong GFS opponent, Alheli played her best match so far this season. Solid shots, good movement and a never quit attitude characterized her play. Even down two games, Alheli kept her energy high and charged back from 4-9 in the third to tie up the game and forced it into overtime.
Nicky Sindwani '14 (Collegeville, Pa.) JV Boys’ Basketball
Nicky had 8 points off the bench and a handful of assists in Wednesday’s game against Solebury. His energy gave the team a huge lift. He also added a couple quick buckets in Saturday’s game to help the team beat ANC.
Nick “Wayne” Wancio '12 (Gilbertsville, Pa.) Varsity B Boys’ Ice Hockey
Nick scored the first of three unanswered goals in the Varsity B hockey team’s come from behind victory over L’Ville. In his last game against our archrivals, Wayne had a career best game in leading his team to victory.
Tony Zhang '15 (Collegeville, Pa.) Varsity Swimming
Despite not feeling his best, and having already swum his best time in the 200 IM, Tony swam the 500 Freestyle against L’Ville on Saturday and earned three points for the team. His toughness is a trait that will serve him well.
