Ned Ide took over as The Hill’s head boys’ varsity lacrosse coach in 2000. Coach Ide has produced dozens of college players in that time. He also has coached Hill players who have gone on to become Division I and Division III collegiate All-Americans, three national champions, national runners-up, and two professional players. As many as 10 former players were playing at the Division I level in 2011. Coach Ide coordinates the defense and directs the man-down unit.
Ide began coaching high school lacrosse in 1984. He was an honorable mention All-American midfielder at Trinity College (Conn.) and a four-time All-New England midfielder. Coach Ide also was an All-New England football player in 1983. In high school, Coach Ide was a first-team All-State midfielder in Connecticut. He was a first-team All-New England Prep player for Suffield Academy in 1980. In 1984, he originated the high school lacrosse program at Thayer Academy (Mass.), and in 1994 did the same at Contoocock Valley High in New Hampshire. In 1990, he was named the NEPSAC Boys’ Lacrosse Coach of the Year, and in 2010 was named the Philly Lacrosse Coach of the Year.
Coach Ide serves as the Chair of the English Department at The Hill and also directs Hill’s in-house faculty professional development initiatives. In addition to coaching lacrosse, he also is an assistant varsity football coach.
