Swimming and Diving: Jay Spencer '84  
Jay Spencer ’84 became head coach of Hill swimming in 2010. He started his swimming career at the Rolling Hills Swim Club in the Northern Virginia Swim League, where he swam for eight years. During that time he set a pool breaststroke record, which has almost certainly been broken by now. He was at The Hill with the likes of Alberto Mestre, who swam in the 1980 and 1984 Olympics. The teams in the early 1980s at the Hill were some of the best in the school’s history, as attested to by the number of school records which still stand from that time period. Jay contributed to none of those records, except by enthusiastically cheering from the side of the pool. Jay retired from the U.S. Navy in 2009 after a 20 year career in submarines, and joined The Hill's faculty in the fall of 2009.  He served as the assistant swimming coach in 2009-10 before taking over as head coach in 2010.
