The week of October 3-9 was a busy one on Hill’s campus. On Monday, School chaplain The Rev. Dr. John Houghton marked the Feast of St. Francis of Assisi with a brief, traditional ceremony blessing the animals that live on campus. Hill’s athletics teams opened up Mid Atlantic Prep League (MAPL) play on Thursday afternoon, as the Rams played host to Peddie School; the varsity football, boys’ soccer, girls’ soccer, and girls’ tennis teams all earned victories. Following the athletics contests against Peddie, sixth formers had the opportunity to see the new Class of 1960 Alumni House and meet Trustees, who were on campus for the fall Trustee Weekend. The installation of solar panels on the Alumni Memorial Chapel also was completed on Thursday, making the Chapel the first building on campus to be powered by solar power. A gift of the Class of 2010, the panels will help meet some of the Chapel’s electricity needs.
On Saturday, the School celebrated the rededication of the Keith Merrill (Class of 1906) Memorial Organ in a beautiful ceremony in the Alumni Memorial Chapel. The service included a "Festival Service of Evensong” and performances by members of The Hill’s Chorus and Glee Club. The restoration project was made possible thanks to the support of Mr. Preston Athey ’67 and other generous donors. On Sunday, students and faculty participated in the Pottstown CROP Walk for Hunger. In addition to walking, students also held a bake sale at First Presbyterian Church. Sponsored by the Church World Service, the CROP Walk raises awareness of and funds for world hunger relief. Twenty-five percent of local funds raised will benefit the Cluster Outreach of Pottstown.
